Newhaven Yacht ClubMark Wade's kind offer is for the skipper who carried the NYC burgee further than Kittiwake's 10,500 nmiles in a 13 month period.
The Challenge is valid for 5 years from July 2nd 2007 to July 1st 2012. The NYC burgee must have been flown the whole way and returned to the Club. Again other important qualifying criteria are that skipper and crew all returned: safe and happy.
The prize is £250 pounds. The Kittiwake Challenge Prize is to encourage a spirit of adventure and personal challenge, pride in the Club, and a culture of safety and consideration for all when at sea.
Contenders for the prize should log their interest in the challenge with the Commodore priot to the AGM. Any members currently sailing abroad, and engaged in long distance cruising are included in this offer, so let us have you details if you want to be considered.
A new cup provided by Mark Wade for the most audacious cruise by a NYC Club member in the past year/cruising season.
The Committee will consider the merits of all contenders submissions. These can be include long distance, difficult conditions mastered or personal challenge achieved. In other words a skipper or a crew member who pushed their personal boundaries to achieve something special.
This could be a fully fit experienced skipper who did an experience stretching trip to say The Norwegian Fjords. Or it could go to someone who just went round Beachy Head as a crew member but this was a major achievement for them, perhaps for example because they did it in spite of a disability. The other important qualifying criteria are that skipper and crew all came back safe and happy.
All submissions to the Commodore prior to AGM each year.
